What would win in a fight between a coyote and an African.

The golden jackal (Canis aureus), or Asiatic jackal, is a slender, medium-sized canid with long legs, a long, pointed muzzle, and a relatively short, bushy tail. The coat is rather coarse, and, as the name suggests, is generally golden or yellowish in colour, although individuals vary from pale cream to tawny, and coat colour may also vary between seasons. The back is often mottled black.

Since the rediscovery of the African Wolf, a certain level of uncertainty surrounds the ecological status of the golden Jackal in northern Africa.

If they're actually referring to the species native to Africa (Canis anthus), that's more properly known as the African golden wolf. But if they're actually referring to the Golden jackal ( Canis aureus ), then they're confused about its being from Africa, as it is actually a Eurasian species not found in Africa, and which has historically already been in Europe for a rather long time.

In 2015, both golden jackals from Africa and Eurasia were found to represent distinct monophyletic lineages separated for more than one million years, sufficient to merit formal recognition as different species: C. aureus (Eurasian golden jackal) and C. anthus (African golden wolf).

The Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis), also known as the Simien jackal or Simien fox, is a canid native to the Ethiopian Highlands. It is similar to the coyote in size and build, and is distinguished by its long and narrow skull, and its red and white fur. Unlike most large canids, which are widespread, generalist feeders, the Ethiopian wolf is a highly specialised feeder of Afroalpine rodents.

The wolf, dingo, dog, coyote, and golden jackal diverged relatively recently, around three to four million years ago, and all have 78 chromosomes arranged in 39 pairs. This allows them to hybridize freely (barring size or behavioral constraints) and produce fertile offspring.

African Golden Wolf - Canis anthus The African golden wolf (Canis anthus), also known as the African wolf or thoa, is a canid native to north and nort.

The previously classified African golden wolf was believed to be a variant of the Eurasian golden jackal, however, scientifically, it is closer to the gray wolf in DNA and genome. Golden wolves can still, however, breed with golden jackals, just as wolves may breed with coyotes or dogs.

The latest recognized member is the African golden wolf (C. anthus), which was once thought to be an African branch of the golden jackal. As they possess 78 chromosomes, all members of the genus Canis are karyologically indistinguishable from each other, and from the dhole and the African hunting dog.
